Good to see you, Walter! Yes - luckily 'The Play's The Thing' just about fitted onto one of my bigger shelves - which has already been custom-made to fit a big similarly sized 'Musicals' book on it!

I'll warm me with your echoes

I can adjust the shelves on my Argos bookcases to accommodate different sized books.

Yes, we have Billy bookcases and find them brilliant. The shelves are adjustable, they're deep enough to hold two rows of paperbacks and it's possible to add glass doors and height extension units if you wish.Eddie Muir wrote:I agree, Sue. IKEA Billy bookcases are excellent. I believe Anita also uses them.

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!
Does anyone own corner bookcases, and if so, where did they get them from please? I've had a Google and the only ones I can find wouldn't fit in with standard book cases as they appear to be stand alone items, if that makes sense. What I am after is a set of bookcases to go along two walls and rather than waste the space in the corner where they would meet, I want something that would blend in between the two straight bookcases.

IKEA do corner units for some of their bookcases, including Billy. We have Billy bookcases (they're available in different wood-effects and white) but we don't have any corner units. They look good though!

Here's a song that might fit the bill here — it even mentions the bookcase called Billy...

I've heard the song before but it's worth hearing again!
Billy bookcases aren't dirt cheap but I feel they're good value because they're very tall and deep, they can cope with the heaviest of books and the shelves are fully adjustable.

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!
Thanks for the link Anita, they look great, but unfortunately the nearest IKEA doesn't have them in the colour I want, that's assuming I could even get there as it is about an hour's drive away from me, and would involve the M25 I think, so not a journey I would consider making myself, and I doubt there would be public transport there.

Can’t you order them online and have them delivered?

I'm not sure, possibly, but I would want to see some in the flesh as it were just to make sure they would be suitable for my needs. Also, colours aren't always that accurate on line, and measuring something is ok up to a point, but to me it's still not the same as actually looking at something in a shop.

Yes, I'd heard it before but hadn't seen the official video with the guys in front of the various IKEA backgrounds!Anita Bensoussane wrote: I've heard the song before but it's worth hearing again!
I have a Billy bookcase myself (a white one — not my choice of colour, but I'm not the one who bought it) and I must say it's brilliant. As Anita says, really deep shelves — you can do a double layer of books if you need to — and it's great how they can be adjusted to any height (only the middle shelf is fixed in place). It's definitely worth considering.

Thanks people, I've got one or two other possibilities in mind now, hopefully sooner rather than later, so will update you when I've got something sorted.

John has very kindly emailed me pics of his all new library.
What delights and treasures it holds. There are so many I would like to read - what a fantastic collection!
