I'm enjoying the story... I like the pace with which a potential mystery is already unfolding. Snubby is at his annoying best! Great stuff, Rob.

Thank you, Daisy! Its good to know someone is reading it, lol! I was pleased to get some feedback on the 'messages' page on here too.
I love Snubby - and he has to be annoying as for me that's part of his charm!!

Re: New Weekly Serial
I have just gone back to page one of this thread and see that you did do an illustration for one of your stories, Julie. Tony wrote:Julie2owlsdene wrote:I'm not clever enough to do a banner for the serial I'm doing at the moment. So I'm sure Tony will find me something as he usually does.
"I expect Julie will be too modest to mention it, but she also painted the picture of Hazel Dene Cottage that is featured on the banner. "

True, Daisy, I did paint a picture of Hazeldene Cottage.
Julian gave an exclamation and nudged George.

Re: New Weekly Serial
In fact, that was what inspired me to do the banner for 'Five Go Off On A Narrowboat' when I sent in the banner. So you led the way on this, Julie!Julie2owlsdene wrote:True, Daisy, I did paint a picture of Hazeldene Cottage.

Re: New Weekly Serial
I'm really enjoying the serial and like how the adventure/mystery takes place before Barney finds his father. Barney as a wandering circus/fair boy seems a more interesting character than later - as has been discussed on here more than once before.

Re: New Weekly Serial
Thanks Daisy! Yes - I agree - Barney is somehow much more interesting before he finds his father - and the fact he is looking, and is free to work where he can and wander about the countryside, often helps the plot too!
Glad you're enjoying it - though sometimes it does feel like you're the only one reading it! Thank you for the comment!

Re: New Weekly Serial
I'm reading it, Rob, as I read all the serials weekly.
I know what you mean about Barney, being interesting before he met his father, but for me now, having read all the series over and over again, I think of Barney as being with his father and happy. Which is why my Barney story I followed on from Ragamuffin and had Barney with his father.
But reading how both you and Daisy think of Barney being more interesting, it sort of puts a damper on my story now!

Re: New Weekly Serial
Thanks Julie - glad you're reading it!
I see what you mean about Barney being happy - and there are lots of good points about that! I just tend to think when Enid gave Barney a father, she should have finished the series (as she intended to) rather than carry it on. Its no reflection on your story though. I think most Barney follow-on novels have picked up where Enid finished, with Barney being 'domesticated' - so yours was the accepted way of a follow-on story. In a way I cheated, because I chose to write a book that needs to be inserted into the series, and I've been a bit worried about how people would take that fact!

Re: New Weekly Serial
In no way did I intend to imply that follow-on stories were not just as good - in fact yours have been most enjoyable Julie, and it has seemed logical to have such stories carry on with Barney in his new, much longed for situation. Rob's idea came as a bit of a surprise - but a welcome one for all that.

Re: New Weekly Serial
I also read the story and like it a lot, just didn't always have time to write. I like both kinds of storys, and I have to admit I don't have the intimate knowledge about the series as you have, I only read them once while the other series I have read more. I will need to change that...
Bill: "I don't know what to say. You're only kids — but you're the finest company of friends anyone could have. You know the meaning of loyalty already, and even if you're scared you don't give up. I'm proud to have you for my friends."
