I know what I want to put...

A monkey escaped from the zoo,
On the back of a cow who said "Moo",
It clung onto her horn
From night until morn,
And the poor cow got covered with poo!

But I think that's a bit rude...
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

(E. Blyton, Sunday Times, 1951)

Ha ha, Rob!
I am an Early Childhood teacher working in a Pre school room with 3-5 year old children. I hear that word several times a day, usually as an insult to another child.

   I suppose we could think up alternatives (e.g. "Then was butted to far Timbuktu!") but the original is funnier!

When I was teaching a few years back, one of the favourite books in the year 1 group was this -

Oh yes, that one. Grown-ups who get shocked at toilet humour for kiddies obviously haven't been around any children in the past few decades. Kids LOVE poo jokes. We all did too, back when I was little, so it's nothing that new. And yes, that was a great ending to the limerick!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

lol! yeah - there's always room for poo jokes!

As a friend of mine once said, talking about her children and slightly misquoting AA Milne - 'Wherever I go, there's always poo, there's always poo and me...'

My two grandsons love poo jokes and both have emoji poo cushions.

Reminds me of walking around our town!

I hadn't heard of The Story of the Little Mole Who Knew it was None of His Business, Rob, but I found an animated version of the book on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plzwDLnieAk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I think I'd have found it quite amusing if it had been around when I was little but I wouldn't have considered it a book to cherish. I preferred wondrous, thoughtful tales. One thing it does do is teach children about different kinds of animal droppings. That made me wonder whether animal droppings are ever mentioned in Enid Blyton books. I know some of her short stories are about identifying birds and animals from their prints in the snow but I don't recall her mentioning droppings at all!

Edit: Actually, I do remember children in the farm books cleaning out the hens and having to scrape droppings from the perches. There might also be references to heaps of manure in one or two books - I'm not quite sure.

OK here’s a new starter based on Anita’s post:

When Anita walked round the town,
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

The sights that she saw made her frown,

When Anita walked round the town,
The sights that she saw made her frown,
Mountains of discarded litter,

The sights that she saw made her frown,
Mountains of discarded litter,
Made her feel bitter,

The sights that she saw made her frown,
Mountains of discarded litter,
Made her feel bitter,
And completely and utterly let down!
