We still get plenty of those during Christmas in Australia too — not to mention the time a few years ago when I was living in Brisbane and the square in front of the city hall had a giant artificial Christmas tree covered with giant artificial snowflakes. Not only was this in the height of summer, but Brisbane is in the sub-tropics!!
