Could he have been a diamond smuggler in the 1970's TV shows? Just a guess,as I have never watched any.

He was definitely a drug smuggler. Unless more modern editions have turned the drugs into diamonds.

Yes, he was a drug smuggler. I haven't read Five Go Down to the Sea for some years, but it was one I really enjoyed and I still remember exactly where the drugs were hidden!!

Re: You're invited to an Enid Blyton Christmas Party
I only mentioned it because I was wondering whether it was a modern 'improvement'! I always thought this was a very adult plot, and also still quite relevant today, as it deals with drug smuggling, so I was a bit disappointed to think it might have been dumbed-down more recently!

Re: You're invited to an Enid Blyton Christmas Party
Just checked on youtube.
It was gold bullion and diamonds being smuggled in the 1970's tv episode,so Daanton is correct from a televisual perspective.

Ah - that explains it! Thanks Pete! Pity they felt the need to alter it - I always felt the drug plot was quite realistic!

Re: You're invited to an Enid Blyton Christmas Party
I agree, it's a great plot (even though it surprised me that Enid wrote about something like that!) and yes to change it to diamonds etc does give the impression that it was being dumbed-down - however it's still drugs in the 90s episode and in the modern books, I've got a copy of it from 2000-and-something (sorry can't remember the year!) with the Eileen Soper cover and it's drugs in there, thank goodness!Rob Houghton wrote:I only mentioned it because I was wondering whether it was a modern 'improvement'!
