Happy Birthday Courtenay. Have a great day.

Re: Happy Birthday, Courtenay!
Ooh boy, I wasn't expecting a thread of my own! Many thanks, everyone. Yes, I did have a lovely day. I don't make a big deal of my birthday, but a friend and I went out to a National Trust property, Cliveden, in Buckinghamshire - very opulent house and grounds with a long history of connections with the rich and famous (and infamous). We weren't expecting to see inside the house, as it's now a 5-star hotel, but we found out they run short tours of a few of the grand rooms. Quite magnificent, and wonderful views from the terrace over the gardens towards the Thames - although the weather wasn't the best! But we had a lovely time anyway.
For a present, my friend bought me the biography of Nancy Astor, Cliveden's most famous owner - who was the first female MP in Britain - so I might post about that on the "what other author are you reading" thread once I get into it!
Thanks again to you all for your kind wishes!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)
