Flickering name links
I'm trying to send a pm and every time I click on a member name the loading bar thing keeps flickering like a dodgy lightbulb. It won't load at all. Is it a problem with the site or my internet connection?

Re: Flickering name links
Everything seems OK to me. Try typing in the member's name in the 'Add Recipients' box and clicking the 'Add' button. It should show up under 'Recipients' below.

Re: Flickering name links
Haha yes . The rest is working fine, clicking on page 2 or 3 of a thread or something, it's only when I click on a name. Say I wanted to send you a pm BB, if I click on your name the blue loading bar stripe flickers nonstop instead of loading the next page properly. I'm on a tablet, not sure if it makes any difference?

The name link is okay for me but I'm on a desktop. If the problem persists, IceMaiden, let me know and I'll see if Keith can shed any light on it.

Hi Anita, yes it's still flickering and I can't send any messages because I can't get anyone's name to load. It's also doing it when I press reload the page. Can you please tell Tony for me that I've PayPal'd my journal subscribsion to him last weekend but unfortunately I couldn't pm him to let him know and still can't! Thank you.

Re: Flickering name links
I've just emailed Keith about the problem, IceMaiden. I think Tony receives notification of PayPal payments (though he doesn't receive any notification of BACS payments) and he may well be reading this thread anyway, but I'll let him know about your resubscription just in case.

Re: Flickering name links
Hmm. IceMaiden, I assume you mean the browser's blue loading bar, since there's no such thing on the website itself? If so, that sounds like the page is redirecting over and over, stuck in a loop. Nobody else is having a problem with that, which suggests it's a local problem to your own browser or computer.
Try clearing cookies first. While viewing the Society website or forums, you can clear its cookies by clicking on the padlock symbol at the left of the url address/search bar, then selecting "cookies" and "remove," etc. Get rid of them all. It won't harm anything, except you'll have to sign in again afterward.
(On Android, you can clear ALL cookies and browsing data from all sites by going to Settings > Privacy and Security. On a PC, it would be under something like Settings > More Options > Clear Browsing Data. But for cookies only, I would always recommend just tapping the padlock symbol and clearing only the cookies for the site you're currently on.)
Then try PM-ing again. If it still flickers, maybe it's a cache issue, in which case do as I said above and clear all browsing data.
Let me know if one of those options works. If not, there may be something else we can try. Also, have you tried this on another device? I'm sure you'll find this issue is limited to your tablet.

Another thing you can try. Just out of interest, what happens if you click below?
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=57
If you can reach my member page okay, but you can't reach it when clicking on my name above, then that would suggest the member link itself is corrupted or screwed up.

Re: Flickering name links
Hi Keith, yes that's exactly it. The blue bar that appears at the top when you load a page. It seems to be stuck, as if it's trying to load something but can't. It's anybody's name by the way, not just Tony's. I can't even click on my own name, I've just tried it! That member list.php link is doing the same thing, I can't open it. Other sites are ok, as are the cave of books, threads, etc, it's only names and reloads that won't work.
Is the padlock the symbol that is on the main address bar? If I press that I can clear the history but not cookies. It also says site is secure and encrypted but I'm a bit afraid to click on that incase I can't get back on here!
Thank you Anita for passing on my message .

Re: Flickering name links
IceMaiden, it might help if you can say what the tablet is that you are using. How you clear cookies/cache will vary according to the device you are using.
