Why can't I read my new private message?

Post by Chrissie777 »

O.k., this is really bothering me. There is a new message and I can't get to it.
So I deleted as much as I could in my messages folder and there is now only 18% filled.
However, I still can't get access to the one new message that shows up in "User Control Panel".
I cannot delete any more messages, so what do I need to do in order to find out WHO sent me that new message?

I finally was able to read the "new" message. It was a message that I already have received on 9th of February and had already read way back then. Why does it show up all of a sudden as a "new message"?

That's strange, Chrissie. If anyone else experiences anything out of the ordinary, please let me know in case there's a technical problem of some sort that Keith needs to know about.

Thank you, Anita. Once I had deleted enough messages in my EBS inbox until I was down to 18%, I finally could read it.

Chrissie, have you created any additional folders for your PM's?

On here, you can create up to FOUR additional ones and then any PM's you want to keep can be moved from your Inbox into one of the additional folders.

If you send/receive messages to certain people regularly you can create folders in their names (max of 4) and set 'rules' that will put their messages directly into their named folders as they arrive. They will still show up as 'new' messages in your notifications and be indicated with the number in brackets alongside the folder name as they do with the normal Inbox. This will effectively give you an additional 400% storage space for messages - 250 instead of 50. You can also just move the messages to the folders yourself if you don't want to be bothered setting up any 'rules'. It frees-up your Inbox and lets you keep your messages longer.

I also find it useful to move the messages I send to those people into the same folder and then they are all together in date order which then makes it much easier to follow conversations with that person if you need to look back. It saves jumping back and forth from Inbox to Sent Items.

Look under 'Rules, Folders & Settings' HERE

Thank you, John, thank you for trying to help me. 8)
I clicked on the link that you attached at the end of your message, but that's too technical for me. I'll ask my husband next weekend. Maybe he can figure out how to create a new folder. It's a pity that I had to delete so many messages until I was down to 18 messages only, before it did let me read my "new" message which turned out not to be new at all. Technology!

Chrissie, it's so straightforward it's unbelieveable.

If you click on that link you get something like this:

All you have to do then is, under 'FOLDER OPTIONS' enter the name you want for the new folder as I have shown here where I have entered 'Chrissie' and click on 'Add'. That's all. The new folder will appear on the left hand side under the 'Inbox'.

Then to move any messages to the new folder you have just created from either the 'Inbox' or 'Sent Messages' just do exactly as you do when you are deleting a message. Tick the box alongside the message but instead of selecting 'Delete marked' at the bottom of the messages select the option 'Move marked to Chrissie' (or whatever the name is you chose for your folder) and click 'Go'. That's it. Done! :D

John, I just tried it, but I'm a hopeless case.
I'll ask my husband on the weekend.
Regarding technology explanations always sound so much easier than when I finally try to put them into use.

I wish I'd known this yesterday, my messages kept saying they were too full to accept any more so I ended up deleting over half of them to try and free up some space. I didn't know they could be saved like that or I'd have kept them :( . At least I know for next time!

I also didn't realise messages could be saved to other folders! I learned something today! For the past 12 years or so I have just been deleting my messages when the inbox gets full!

You can have an extra FOUR folders (max) on top of your others, and you can also move 'Sent Messages' into them. It is particularly useful if you PM regularly with one person as you can keep all your 'sent' and 'received' messages together in one dedicated folder and in order - Sent/Received/Sent/….etc.
