Can anyone please tell me more about usergroups?

As far as I know, Hope, there are three usergroups. The first is Registered Users - the normal ones. They have the power to post messages, to edit and delete their posts if liked (not anyone else's), to place avatars and signatures. The second is moderators; there are no moderators in this forum - although there were a few previously. They have the power to edit and delete everyone's posts. And the last, the most top is the administrators group. They have many powers, like banning a user, etc.

Yes, nostalgically I remember when the Internet began taking the interactive form it currently is in, almost 20 years ago, we had a lot of usergroups and the interaction could be very intense, though at times it could take on people being nasty and rude to each other. That was the time when the accusation of "being flamed" (which meant someone had either severely criticized his/her/their opinions or conduct) was quite common. The phrase has all but vanished from the Internet since then. Even those types of usergroups have all but vanished. It seems they have been supplanted by the likes of Yahoo Groups, Facebook and Twitter.

You've resurrected a three-year-old thread, Stephen. Besides, the original poster seems to have had something else in mind. Are you sure you aren't thinking of Usenet groups?

Also, the terms 'flamed' 'flames' and 'flaming' etc. are still popular on the internet today. I see it a lot on fanfic authors' chapter notes, saying something like "No flames please, constructive criticisms only", or "All flames will be ignored".

I'm new here and I don't know anything about anything yet, so I was wondering whether you could please explain for what reasons do the administrator's ban a user? I just want to know so I don't do those things.

Don't worry, Trevor! I don't think we've ever had to ban a regular user, and if the situation arose I imagine that in most cases it would be appropriate to send the person concerned a warning first, to give them the chance to amend their behaviour. If you do come across any members whose accounts have been deleted, that's because either a) they only joined the forums to post spam, or b) they no longer wanted to be a member and asked for their account to be deleted.
