Even with my Broadband speed, this site does come up a little slow.

David, the broadband speed we get here in Australia isn't that good compared with countries like Britain and presumably the US. I suspect that's what causing the problem. It's not something I really notice particularly, but my husband sounds off about it all the time!

As Moonraker said, what's this site got to do with the price of fish? :?

Oh well, I'm going to put this down to your internet just being slow. PHPBB forums on ANY site are going to be a little slow-loading because they have to do a lot of work pulling from the database.

My internet speed has been unshaped, Keith. So page loading shouldn't be that bad a problem. The plan I'm on, has a maximum download speed, of 17Mbps.

Just out of interest, David, do a speed test here:

http://www.speedtest.net/" target="_blank

Then "share your result" by pasting the forum image code into this thread:

Yeah, like we all want to see it.

This report will probably shed light on it: http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/communicat ... 104,00.htm" target="_blank. Complain to the government/Telstra, David, and stop whingeing on here.

But, lizafau, I just wanted a good laugh! :D

I thought it would be interesting to see David's result using the same bench test as others. Because if David's getting the speed he mentioned, he shouldn't have a problem. I was wondering if what he *should* get (even by Aussie standards) and what he *is* getting is the same thing. Perhaps his speed test will confirm that he's actually getting about 28 kbps, in which case I'd suggest he gives up the internet and buys a nice writing pad and ballpoint pen.

Not sure how this subject moved on to internet speeds, because all this should be on that other thread I mentioned -- but to bring the subject back on track, I'll just add that I don't see any harm in the message board at all, and it's better to have it than not have it, if only in terms of exposure on Google. We've already concluded (in another thread) that the messages on the home page are indexed on Google within a day or so -- so surely that's a good thing?

Lizarfau,

Perhaps it's you australians who should stop whinging. And treating other people badly.

Given I am British-born (migrated to Australia in the 1990s) as well as an Australian citizen and very proud to belong to both great nations, I don't feel like getting involved in British-Australian sledging, thank you.

I always get concerned when threads go off topic and then proceed to take an unpleasant turn. I'm no moderator, but this sort of talk has no place here, surely?

Aussie/Pom rivalry is more a creation of the tabloids than anything else.

I nearly said the same thing, Petermax, but thought "least said soonest mended. I'm a bit confused as I thought Bannerman lived in Australia yet he appears to be criticising Australians? Still, I do get easily confused..... :?

As for Australia, any country that produces a creature such as Kylie Minogue, must have something going for it!

Fair enough, Petermax.

Over the last 34 years though, I have encountered a fair number of Australians, who do represent the humanities' worse qualities. Although the same can be said for other countries, These qualities seem to be more prevailant in Australia.

Also, I did create a General Natter Room (Chat room) in the General Natter Forum, specifically for random and off topic chatting. But it's hardly being used for random/off topic chatting. :(
