Deleting a post
Does anyone know how can I delete a post and that is if someone has already replied to it?

Re: Deleting a post
I dont think its possible at that point Julian. All you can do is use the edit button and delete the text from the post. It would then appear as a blank box in the thread.

Maybe it might have been an idea to PM or email one - I am sure Tony or Anita (who are online much of the time) would have been only too happy to help.Julian wrote:LOL. Thanks Lucky Star (considering no adminstrator has replied to my thread!! )

By the time I saw your question, Julian, Lucky Star had already answered. It's nice for everyone to chip in and answer people's queries - not only admin!

I didn't know you couldn't delete a post once someone had replied to it!
Lucky Star's suggestion though sounds quite ingenious!

I guess so unless someone has already quoted me or replied to my postViking Star wrote: Lucky Star's suggestion though sounds quite ingenious!
Anita, could I send you a PM with direct links to my posts where you can delete them? I hope I'm not being annoying
Or maybe, I can be a moderator for five minutes so that I can delete my own posts that I consider unappropriate!
Just kidding

Re: Deleting a post
I once posted something I didn't mean to. I think I intended to send it to Anita as a PM.
Slightly panic-stricken, I emailed Keith about my plight, and he very kindly deleted it overnight (still only evening in the U.S.) and no one on the forums was any the wiser the next day!

Yes e-mailing the admins does sound like a jolly good idea I hope Anita or any of the admins log in and see this thread.
I really want some of my posts to be completely deleted

And when are the admins going to log on the forum? I've been waiting for them the whole night!

Re: Deleting a post
We do check the forums on a regular basis, Mohamed, but there are only two active admins, Anita and me, and we do sometimes have other things to do! I spent several hours yesterday sorting out the latest Journal which is quite a complicated business, as I want to get them in the post on Monday. There are also other things that need doing, I have for example deleted 80 quiz attempts this month, all from two people who just wanted to muck things up.
Deleting posts isn't always that straightforward, as you also have to remove other posts or edit them that refer to the deleted post. I recently edited the post on Michele Gallagher and it took me a considerable time as I deleted about 50 posts and edited quite a number of others that referred to the deleted posts.
I am sorry you waited all night, but I am one of these strange people who likes to sleep at night! If you give us some idea of what it is that you want deleted it might be possible to do something about it, but it is not a good idea to berate admins for not immediately attending to your needs.

Re: Deleting a post
Yes, that's the concern I had. If people have already replied, Julian, deleting one or two of your posts could potentially make nonsense of a whole thread unless we go through it checking and editing every response. If possible, it may be better for you to edit your own posts in such a way that the thread will still make reasonable sense. If not, please contact us with full details of the posts you want deleted and we'll see what we can do (it may take a while though.) Hope you don't set a trend!Tony Summerfield wrote:Deleting posts isn't always that straightforward, as you also have to remove other posts or edit them that refer to the deleted post. Same here, I'm afraid. Perhaps we should sort out some kind of rota, Tony, to ensure we're not both asleep at the same time!Tony Summerfield wrote:I am sorry you waited all night, but I am one of these strange people who likes to sleep at night!

Lucky you, Tony! I am at present stuck at Amesbury on a standby, wishing that I was at home in my bed! Ah well, I guess it pays the bills.Tony Summerfield wrote:I am sorry you waited all night, but I am one of these strange people who likes to sleep at night!
