Hello everyone...this is Sabina from Lebanon. Enid Blyton is a really wonderful author and I have read almost all of her series in three languages, French, Arabic and English.
I have a question about the reviews on this wonderful website ... why don't you guys also include just simple plot summaries of the books, alongside those boring reviews. Most of the reviews hardly ever tell the story of the book - I just find the reviewer's opinions whcih are quite boring to read and other boring information that hasn nothing to do with the plot of the book
I'm not meaning to be hard - but it was just a suggestion.
Love and kisses,
Sabina

When I read a review, I like to find out if the book is one I'd like to read for myself. If the review contained too much information and gave away the plot, it would spoil the pleasure of finding out what happened when I got around to reading the book.
(Plot precis are very useful when revising a boring book for an exam - but not a Blyton!)
I think you are our first member from Lebanon, so welcome

Reviews are meant to hopefully entice you to pick up the book and read it for yourself, Sabina 90, it would completely spoil the ending if you knew how it was going to end before you'd even read it.

Welcome, Sabina.
The most enjoyable way to find out the plots is to read the books! You're lucky to be able to read them in three different languages!

Re: Reviews
Welcome Sabina - how lucky you are to read the books in three languages!
The reviews are actually very interesting when you read it before a book. It doesn't give away the story, but it can sort of give you an insight into what feelings the story can provide. In fact, some reviews are more enjoyable than the books themselves - take a look at Terry Gustafson's Noddy reviews for example.
PS. I seem to have found a double? Or am I seeing double? Maybe it's time I went for a eye test!

Hi Sabina! Nice to have you here!
What about a little more details about yourself? Have you seen the Introduce yourself section? Cause otherwise, someone's going to move the thread. *Cough Anita*
Only teasing!
You're right Ming! I'm seeing double too! It's not your eyes!
You've got the same avatars!

You mean two members cannot have the same avatars?Pippa-Stef wrote: You've got the same avatars!
All right I'm sorry but I was not aware of this. I really liked Ming's avatar of Kiki so I thought I'd use it too, thats all I meant.
Are we allowed to use any copyrighted picture? One of the forums that I'm a member of, gives us a list of avatars that we can choose from so I thought I'd choose some other member's avatar here.
All right right, I've removed my avatar. Aplogies for any offence.

Re: Reviews
There's no specific rules that say you cannot use an avatar someone else is using. We just don't do it, to avoid confusion. We get so used to seeing a particular avatar on one's profile that someone else with the same image totally make us think of the first person.
So, I've found a Kiki fan as well! That's great. Now I have some back-up.
Why not use another picture of a cockatoo for Kiki? That's what I did. Check it out on Google.
No offence taken, by the way.

Thanks for the reply, Ming.
I found some really pretty images of Kiki in the booklisting scans. I was wondering if I could just crop one down and use it as an avatar. Am I allowed to?

Yeah! That should be fine, Sabina! (Ming's gone to bed)
I can recommend a good resizing site if you want!

Re: Reviews
Wow! Nothing like making your mark, Sabina. I am seeing double, too - only not avatars, but posts. You more or less posted the same comment over on EnidBlyton.net!Sabina90 wrote: why don't you guys also include just simple plot summaries of the books, alongside those boring reviews. "I am NOT meaning to be critical but its just a suggestion. I would like you to include simple plot summaries of the books. The reviews are too long and boring and they just contain the reader's opinion"
So the reviews on the Society site are just as boring as the ones on EnidBlyton.net, eh? Hmm, as a writer of some of the reviews, I am sorry you found them boring. Plot summaries, although useful to get the gist of a book, have to ensure that not too much is given away, otherwise there is little point in reading the book. Likewise, a review should never give away the ending or any of the unexpected detail.
As Anita said, the best plan is to read the book!

Re: Reviews
I find it greatly interesting to read the reviews after I've read the book. Is that strange? Its interesting to see what the reviewer thought of the book and what we agree or disagree on. Personally I find that a straight summary of the story gives too much away and tells you what you more or less already know. We have some absolutely fabulous reviews on this site and there are many on Keith's site too. I dont find them boring at all.

Its always a pleasure for me to read the reviews of any book and its always interesting to know what people think about the book and their opinions.
If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it.
