Members Only forum?

Post by Ming »

Okay, this may be the stupidest suggestion of all, but I was thinking - how about a Society Members forum? Not accessible by anyone other than members, I mean, so that members can discuss the Weekly Serial and other "Members Only" items on the main website without giving away things to non-members.

Not sure whether it's really a good idea of not - one moment I feel it's gonna be good to discuss the serial, and the other, I feel it might cause quite a lot of hurt feelings (by being sort of, "left out"). :?

Contradicting myself all the time. :|

I think its a bit unnecessary really. I have never felt that there was anything I could'nt discuss on the open forums. In fact some of our discussions have probably inspired people to join both the forums and the society which is a good thing.

It would also have to involve logging in twice. It would be a good idea to keep in reserve if the forums get really much bigger but for the moment I am content with what we have. On the other hand if such a forum did exist I would join in wholeheartedly so I suppose I'm also contradicting myself.

Lets see what the general consensus is.

That's very true indeed. I myself was inspired to join that way.

As I said, I'm very confused about this.

I also agree with that. I think one forum is enough. No need to cause a division in the ranks.

However, when The Secret Forum opens it's doors to all I shall be second in the queue. :!:

Moose's Euroforum gives longer serving members a Senior Members' Lounge. Maybe that would be an option? There is no need to log-on twice, as membership is automatically recognised.

Maybe Moose could enlighten us as to her reasons for creating it on EF.

Yeah, I don't think it's really necessary, and I am not sure how I would go about implementing it, either. It would require going through the member list giving members the necessary permissions, and it isn't always easy to tell whether someone is a Society member or not.

I also agree with Lucky Star that people will be encouraged to join the Society if they can follow all discussions and Society happenings.

Keep the Forum as it is. I joined the EBS a few weeks ago having joined this forum six months previously. I should have enlisted earlier, the EBS Journal is a quality publication.

Moonraker the reason we have a secret forum on EF is just so people can discuss private or personal matters with people they know and trust if they like :). I dunno if this is really that sort of place as this is a more specifically focused forum. I am happy to go with the flow always though :)
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Time to die.
