They're all good, Pete. My favourites are Landfall, Pied Piper and On The Beach.pete9012S wrote:I have never read that one John - My wife absolutely loves Nevil Shute's books.John Pickup wrote: On The Beach by Nevil Shute is one of the best "disaster" books ever written in my opinion.
I've only read one book by him, but I absolutely loved it, 'Pastoral' published in 1944.
When we all met up in Beaconsfield a few years ago, our fellow member, Francis, kindly brought me two Nevil Shute hardbacks in wrappers from the bookshop in Alton he frequents.

Re: Enid Blyton Day & General Meet Ups
Thanks John - I found 20 Nevil Shute books in our master kindle library which my wife and I have on our pc's hard disk.
I found On The Beach and The Pied Piper there. Don't seem to have Landfall.
I will make a start on Pied Piper - thank you for the recommendation.

Re: Enid Blyton Day & General Meet Ups
Just been doing a bit of tidying up and came across a receipt. It was for the B & B my mother and I stayed in when we went to the 2012 Enid Blyton Day.
Ah, happy times.
Just checked out my photos from that event, and shocked to find I took hardly any!

Fond memories indeed of happier times. I miss those days terribly.

So do I, John. Whenever the second Saturday in May comes round, I feel as though I'm meant to be catching the train to Twyford for a Blyton-filled day with scores of Blyton friends from around the globe. Happy times indeed!

Yes I have exactly the same feeling on that day Anita. The growing excitement of the walk from Twyford station through the village and out to Lodden Hall is something I always remember.

Re: Enid Blyton Day & General Meet Ups
I was looking for something else in a box recently and came across various bits of Blyton ephemera including my 2012 programme, some slips from old journals, a leaflet for an informal Blyton day I didn't attend, some Old Thatch bits and pieces...

Re: Enid Blyton Day & General Meet Ups
Yes, I'm glad I too have happy memories of the Enid Blyton Days I attended. Daisy and I would try and stay in the same hotel if we could. It was the high light of the year for me, to meet up with Blyton friends, to browse the book stalls and listen to the speakers on the stage. Then the wonderful picnic after the days.
Julian gave an exclamation and nudged George.
