Doesn't it look magnificent!

Can anyone recognise the cover illustration and where it is taken from?

Magnificent is the word! As for the cover picture, I've no idea where it's from although it looks familiar and I'd love some Christmas cards with that picture on. Looking forward to my thrice-yearly treat already.

It's a lovely front cover, very seasonal indeed. It actually cheered me up to see the cover, as I love Christmas. :D

Tony has now kindly provided the Journal's table of contents:

The cover picture is taken from a plate in The Fifth Holiday Book, published by Sampson Low, Marston in July 1950.
How many recognised the cover picture? I racked and racked my limited brains, but drew a complete blank!

Three stories I am initially looking forward to reading and commenting on are:

. Agatha Christie, Enid and Two Different Houses by John Henstock (4)

. Book Review of Enid Blyton – The Untold Story by Judith Crabb (68)

. Enid Blyton Stories from the Roaring 20s – No. 32: Witch Grufflum's Plum Pudding by Audrey Saint Lo (76)

How about you?

The contents of Journal 76 sound wonderful and I am especially looking forward to Agatha Christie, Enid and Two Different Houses by John Henstock. As a Brer Rabbit 'fan I am also looking forward to his letter and Brer Rabbit in the Deep South by Angela Canning. However, I have often found that sometimes when one is looking forward to something (and I am speaking in general here and not specifically referring to the forums) it does not quite live up to one's expectations, whereas something else that one did not really consider turns out to be absolutely top class. Either way, I am sure Journal 76 will provide some interesting reading.

Just between you and I, I'm also looking forward to:

. Winter Warmers by Anita Bensoussane (52)

. Timmy, the Best Dog in the World by William Ferguson (62)

It's arrived! And it looks as frabjous as always. Tony's editorial makes rather sobering reading though, why aren't people interested in author websites any more? Anyway I shall enjoy reading this Journal and write more on it later.

Mine has just arrived!

I'm at the hospital for most of the afternoon today, so there's my reading sorted.
Can't wait to begin reading it - Thanks Tony.

Mine dropped through the post box thing morning. Love the front cover. Nostalgia pictures of Christmas I just love. Reminds me of when Christmas really felt like Christmas when I was a child. Somehow Christmas doesn't seem the same anymore, I guess that's what happens when one grows older!

I was going to start reading this evening, but quickly glanced through and thought that I'll manage to read a couple of articles before going out. After reading the Editorial, I went straight to Timmy the Best Dog in the World by William Ferguson. Loved reading the article. I hadn't given much thought really to how Timmy had been found, and never really thought of him being a frightened sad abandoned puppy. He's just Timmy now, the best dog in the world for all readers who love the Five books. :)

I then went onto the Six of the Best books, and enjoyed that article too. Nice to see some of my own favourites on those pages. Interesting though how the Famous Five had been used before when writing about friends at Greyfriars School, in The Magnet. And yet Enid, as mentioned won the race by publishing the first Famous Five in 1942.

Good read so far, so I'll return to the Journal now this evening. Thank you Tony.

I'm at the hospital too, Pete, whilst Erika has her echocardiogram. Hopefully, my journal will be there when we return home.

If not, give Tony hell John -
He was explaining to me recently that the forums were far too gentlemanly and polite, just between you and I! :D
