I agree - if I had known the places my article was to be split, I'd have rewritten the first sentences!Moonraker wrote:
Although I have no wish to read The Adventure of the Strange Ruby, at least not in its re-written form, Rob is writing a fascinating account of it. However, one problem of splitting an article is to ensure it joins seamlessly. The first sentence was rather abrupt and seemed to be taken in mid-sentence - I guess it was continuing from exactly the place where the scissors cut in part one.
"Instead, Tessa suggests she and Pat set about rescuing the twins themselves....."
Instead of what? I could go upstairs and hunt out Journal 60 to find out what it was instead of, but it seemed too much effort! I soon put this minor irritation behind me and continued enjoying the article.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

More articles now read and enjoyed.
Really like John Lester's article Six O'clock Tales and how he found it.His articles are always well written and researched.
Nick's Making Of The Adventure Series for TV was a superb read,Fascinating background detail, interviews and I love the idea that New Zealand was like England in The 1930's/1950's...sounds like a lovely place.
I'm longing to read Anita's article, but as I'm still currently reading the first two books I will have to be patient!

I hope you're enjoying the Happy House books, Pete. Enid Blyton evokes the long, promising days of a childhood summer beautifully.pete9012S wrote:I'm longing to read Anita's article, but as I'm still currently reading the first two books I will have to be patient!

The story of Enid's sundial was a great read and I'm so glad that this piece of history is now properly homes in the wonderful and well recommended Bekonscot Model Village. Many thanks to Kari Dorme for that piece of good news.
I thought this was a good picture showing the sundial in it's original setting.

There is a slightly better photo of it on page 59 of Journal 29, with Enid looking out the window right underneath it.

Thanks Tony.I didn't know if it would be allowed to post it here.
Does anyone think that garden seat was very solidly built?
If all of my family sat on one together I know what would happen!

Re: Journal 61
Are you perhaps looking for a sundial on a brick column, Sixret, as featured in the Journal? The sundial was originally mounted on the wall of the house and can be seen just below the top window. The brick column was built to look like the columns on the verandah, two of which can be seen in the photo.

Re: Journal 61
It took me ages to find it too! Talking of which, I have thoroughly enjoyed the latest journal over which I have taken my time, savouring each article. Thanks to Tony for sending me a replacement for the one which went astray. I wonder if someone somewhere is enjoying it! I think most of the remarks and observations I could make have already been made. I really appreciate the variety of articles which Tony manages to assemble into a delightful Journal of such a consistently high standard. It surely must be the best value for money of its kind.

This is the best I can do at the moment as I can't trace the full page photo!
The finished product as shown in the Journal has had a jolly good clean!

That's very clear Tony. Looks fine as it is. She looks quite cheerful and happy in that picture.
