What about Bob's mother from "Six bad boys"?
Yes, she was mean and selfish, wasn't she?

I am rereading the Malory Tower series right now so finding the comments on Gwendoline Mary very interesting. I wouldn't describe her nor Angela as evil though. I keep that word for people that kill/maim others. But they both showed signs of cruelty and very little self awareness and who knows where that can lead to if not unchecked or corrected. Both show signs or partial redemption or self realisation, Gwendoline more than Angela because of the near death of her father. They are both deeply unpleasant characters, however, perhaps not evil, but certainly cruel in their delight of upsetting and bullying others not as fortunate as themselves. I think there were worse characters like Prudence and Erica in St Claire's. But they were so dreadful that they only lasted one book.

If it's not corrected, it could lead to one of them becoming another "Maggie", up to no good (Five on a hike together).
