Cassell's Children's Annuals

Post by Anita Bensoussane »

It had been a while since anything was added to Updates but Tony has been very busy scanning the Enid Blyton content of the Cassell's Children's Annuals (except the 1923 one as he doesn't have that, sadly) and has now loaded all the relevant pages. To read them, go to the Updates link (top right of screen, where it says Updated May 18). He'll be adding further Updates as time allows.

The Cassell's Children's Annuals are beautiful publications and it's wonderful to see the gorgeous illustrations that accompany the stories and poems. I'd have loved 'The Surprising Poker', 'The Ha-ha Bird', 'Prince Furious and the Spanking Slippers' (used in Journal 63) and 'Pitapat and the Yellow Socks' if I'd come across them as a child, as I had other tales of that kind which I enjoyed reading over and over.

'The Mysterious Car' (used in Journal 37) is the most exciting tale for me - a thrilling short adventure with similarities to the John Hollins stories. A great read which transports the reader back in time to the early 1930s.

Thanks, Tony, for making this rare material available!

Excellent Anita, thanks for informing us. And thanks of course to Tony for his hard work in making this material available. I love these old, almost forgotten, stories. I'll have a look at them as soon as I'm back home.

I’m enjoying the stories and poems from the Cassell’s Children’s Annuals. Thank you Tony for adding them. I wouldn’t otherwise be able to read these stories if you didn’t put them on our website, it is much appreciated.
