I think the point is that it is the meetings and the shed-discussions/activities are secret, not the members. That others know the members makes the Secret Seven the envy of their peers. As I see Susie, she is there as an antagonist. To make her a member would defeat her object.

Surely to make her a member would make Susie's day. That was always her goal.

Making her a member would defeat the author's object of having Susie as an antagonist which makes many of the stories more interesting than they might otherwise have been.

If they had, the question would have been 'who do they get rid of?' If nobody, the society name would have had to have been changed. :?

Great idea John - then ditch that pompous overbearing know it all!

Maybe Peter could be the antagonist, then! Seriously though, didn't Peter and Janet start the Society?

Yes they did. That's why Peter was the boss. Also the shed was in their garden so chucking Peter out would have been problematic. Far easier to write in an irritating sister. :D

Yes, it would have been impossible to throw Peter out but he always had a major advantage over the others; as he and Janet were usually in the shed waiting for the others, he very rarely had to say the password. He was always mightily scathing of anyone who forgot it though.

Pam and Barbara. Scamper could become the seventh member again.

Totally agree. Peter is one of my least favourite Enid Blyton characters.
I refuse to read censored Enid Blyton books
