A little article from a proof reader

Post by Debbie »

I'd been wondering whether anyone would be interested in this article written by a lady who did some proof reading for EB.

On page 12, ("spotlight") there's a just a little bit about EB.

That was most interesting Debbie. I love how she was known as Mary Mouse! Actually I enjoyed reading quite a lot of the booklet. I'm a Methodist and go on the facebook UK Methodist page - though I don't often comment.

Thanks Debbie,
being a proof reader myself I found it most interesting and am familiar with the situation of less experienced people missing/overlooking many errors in manuscripts.

I also enjoyed the article on purple!

Very interesting.

Not just because of the Enid Blyton reference, but also mention of 'Pilots', which my mother and aunt were both involved in when they were young, and also the mention of Hunstanton where I spent several happy childhood holidays. :D

Oh and also the references to ballet and dancing, which is another family interest - Josie sounds like someone I could get on well with.

I enjoyed reading about Josie and her answering the phone to Enid. I took and passed a correspondence course in proof reading when I was made redundant from Spillers back in 1999 after 27 years as a flour Miller but I never followed it up as I started a new job just days after I received my certificate.
Thanks for posting that, Debbie.

That's interesting, Debbie. Thanks for posting it. I'm surprised that Josie Birkett talks of having to "interpret Enid Blyton's handwritten scripts" at Brockhampton Press, as I thought Enid's manuscripts were typed by that time. Maybe Josie is talking about interpreting handwritten annotations and corrections made by Enid? I had a chuckle at Enid Blyton asking to speak to Mr. Wharmby and giving her name as Mary Mouse!
