I just hope your parents don't follow Philip's habits - tadpoles don't thrive kept in pockets!

My mum is an ex primary school teacher, the vintage of always having a nature table in the classroom.

So last week I risked life and limb to get a small blob of frogspawn. But frogspawn doesn't come in small blobs, only big ones, and I had to squidge a section to get it to break off.

Yesterday they all hatched and are happily swimming around in the Pyrex dish usually used for Shepherds Pie, which is balanced on top of the (unused) gas fire in their lounge.

Well done, Viv! I remember when I was little, we caught tadpoles (they were already hatched) in the dam in the paddocks opposite our house, and kept them in a bucket and fed them on boiled lettuce. Lots of fun to watch them getting bigger, then growing their legs, then finally hopping away as little frogs. We never did that at school, only at home, but I remember us raising chickens in my first year of school, and my older sister's class at one stage had a pet hermit crab.

Hope your parents are staying well and they enjoy their tadpoles too! :D

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Tonight's treat was defrosted frozen peas. The cornflakes were either eaten or reduced to mush

Aww indeed. My late father-in-law made such a device for their dachshund when he lost the use of his hind legs. This was over 20 years ago, before any were available commercially. People used to stop and admire the clever idea when he was out walking!
