As a frequent reader of the Famous Five, Adventure series, The secret series
Please can anyone tell me what periods of time the books are set in eg 1940s, 50s etc

On the other hand it was only approximately the forties and fifties, because large chunks of what was going on then was ignored. By which I mean the war, and also rationing. Sweets and sugar were very limited, but you wouldn't think so from the amount the children managed to consume!
The attitudes and outlooks were that period or perhaps a bit earlier, but it's a very much fictionalised world.
