Does anyone know anything about this book?

I bought this off eBay for £22. It's a hardback thin little book (along the build of Old Mill or Seaside Cottage), called The Spell That Flew Away. It has five short stories. There is no picture on the front or back of the boards, no author name, nor even a full title, only 'The Spell' in the circle on the front. No publication date but the publisher is Newnes. There are several lovely illustrations but no illustrator's name. I can't find anything about it online, no pictures and the cave brings up a Sunny Stories magazine but not a book. I'll get some better photos, the pages are much browner than they look here and the boards are sort of marbled blue with a dark blue spine. Anyone have any knowledge of this strange little book?

As you can see it is just a copy of Sunny Stories for Little Folks No. 52 and it looks as if it has lost its cover and someone has bound it themselves, so it is only the central bit that is Newnes.

The only solution I could think of is that the book had been re-covered, which is what you have also suggested.

So it's a magazine that's been bound into a book by someone? I didn't think of that because it's got a title page just like a book which seems an odd thing for a magazine to have .

They were published as books rather than magazines. Two new titles were added each month and they were always in newsagents for several months - there were plenty of other publication that were published in the same way. If you look at your book again you will see that it is just one story in five chapters.

Thank you for that information Tony. I don't really collect Sunny Stories (got to draw the line somewhere!), I only bought it as I thought it was a book so I'm wondering would it be better if I remove the front and left it as a magazine without a cover? I can't understand why anyone would go to the effort of rebinding a magazine though, they must've been really really bored .
