Mystery Burnt Cottage

Post by Green Hedges »

Have gone back to the analysis I made of this book in 2012 and updated it for:

1. artist illustrations (Joseph Abbey and Mary Gernat).
2. my own composite illustrations (see one below)
3. Enid's stated writing technique (see said image below)
4. chapter-by-chapter summary of the action

Could be digging a hole for myself when I think of updating my essays on the rest of the series!

Anyway, here is the link: https://bit.ly/2XMuMQn" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Have already made a start on this Duncan - really enjoying it.
Your hard work preparing these articles for us is much appreciated.

Thank you!

Earlier this week a reader emailed me about something I'd missed in Mystery of the Burnt Cottage. Concerning the village of Holmer Green being Wilmer Green in chapter ten. Anyway, if you scroll down-down-down my page to the postscript, you'll see Russell's mail in full:

Interesting, Duncan. The names 'Wilmer Green' and 'Holmer Green' do sound remarkably similar.

Yes, thanks from me too Duncan.
I'm off to a remote cottage on holiday - I will read the whole article again with great enjoyment when I arrive.
The AA Routemaster says the journey will take 4hrs 28mins but I am aiming to be there in 3hrs 50 mins. :wink:

How are you going to achieve that outstanding journey time on Goon's bicycle, Pete? Oh, I see, you're getting a lift in the back of Inspector Jenks's car. Will you and the Find-Outers all fit in? I guess so, with Larry up front with the Chief and Fatty in the boot, disguised as a picnic basket.
