Famous Five Wake Up Times!

As a younger kid I was probably up about 8.30 or 9.00 during the school holidays. By my teens, that hit 10.00 or 10.30. By the sixth form I would usually get a bacon sandwich thrust at me on a Saturday by about 11.30 to entice me to get up.

In summer, these days, I am quite capable of such lunacy as getting up at 5.30 for a cycle. A legacy of 20 odd years of early starts, commuting to work on the early train.

Your bacon sarnie comment made me laugh, burlingtonbertram - my Mum used to entice us out of bed on school mornings with the promise of porridge. Never failed!

I'm an incurable late riser. At least, I can get up at 6:45 for work, but not on a day off - any time after ten o'clock!

I do remember sleeping until about 1 pm on one occasion. I needed a Timmy to wake me up! Just shows how useful a pet dog is to promote early rising.

Exactly, Francis. My parents' dog Sandy sleeps on the bed with them and won't stand for any nonsense if they're asleep when it's time for her morning walk and some food. It was even worse when we had two cats as well!!

Judging from some of the replies I was abnormal as a child. I tended to be up between 6-7am and things haven't really changed. I'm quite glad to be honest because it has put me in good stead for fatherhood!

When I first got my own flat, I remember waking one Saturday. It was still dark but I thought, what the heck, I'll get up anyway. Found out that it was actually about 7PM not 7AM.

I can't do that nowadays; if I'm very lucky I can manage until about 9.30 AM in winter, at best.

I think teenagers are the worst of all; seem to think I read somewhere that they genuinely do need more sleep.

Unless I'm unwell, completely exhausted and/or under unusual stress, I can never bear to be in bed any later than 7.30 am, even on weekends. I've pretty much always been like that, so you're not the only one, Nick.
