We have snow at least until end of March covering the ground most of the winter. So far we had a pretty tame December and not much snow. The ground was still too warm and when the snowflakes hit the ground, they melted.

It has settled quite quickly, with coloured Xmas lanterns in the garden reflecting beautifully off the pure White Snow! The scene is set for a lovely Adventure! :D
Sounds wonderful!

I'm just reading this for only the second time ever, and despite always saying I disliked it previously, that Mr Roland was too obvious as a villain and it wasnt one of the best Fives, I am really enjoying it, and slowly changing my opinion of it. As an early Five book it's probably one of the better ones (I've never been madly keen on any of the first six books, except 'Treasure Island' and 'Smugglers Top' - I much prefer the later stories such as 'Trouble' 'Hike' and 'Camp'. But 'Adventuring Again' has certainly leapt from one of my least favourites to the top half of my list!

hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes

Hmm, interesting. Maybe I should consider a re-read, possibly with Maxey illustrations.

I'd have to see Moonraker reading such a book before I believed it.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Has Nigel had his EB Society account hacked?! ;-)

Seriously though - those Betty Maxey covers higher up this thread are all pretty artistic in my view - I think they're better than her internal illustrations personally. 8)

Aha, got it - I think Nigel may have been harking back to this previous post:
Moonraker wrote:I disliked the book on my first read, as a child - and have only been able to re-read it once. I have often known follow-ups to be a disappointment - this book is no exception, in my view. To make the book really awful, I suggest a copy illustrated by Maxey.
Who knows - if he's converted to liking Five Go Adventuring Again after all, maybe conversion to Maxey fandom can't be that much further off...

Well, I hope it won't, John. I'd start getting a bit worried for Nigel if it did.

I think Moonraker was eluding to the fact I said I also didnt like this book much on a first reading...and maybe he should give it another try. ;-) On the other hand, my version has Soper illustrations, LOL...! I have really enjoyed revisiting this book and really did surprise myself because when I first read it I hated it. It actually has some great scenes between the cousins, and although it's plain that Mr Roland is a baddy from the beginning, Enid is quite good at making him seem pleasant and fun-loving and intelligent, which sets him apart from most of her other villains, who look, sound and act like villains. It's well worth another read, Nigel! ;-)

I'm now inspired to read through the Five books in order, something I've never done before, leaving out Treasure Island but continuing on with Five Run Away Together, as I havent read them for around 10 years or so.
