just to be picky - you missed a 'good' off there!

Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Julian gave an exclamation and nudged George.

When Timmy starts barking at lunchtime, and Lenoir comes into the playroom to talk to the children, he asks them if they can hear a dog barking. Why didn't one of them say that it was probably a dog barking outside in the village? The barking was muffled, after all.

Also, as there was clearly a way along the passages from the marshes I'm sure a few dogs would have found their way into the tunnel over the years!

I'm sure we've already mentioned this, but there was a way into the passage from the dining room, so there was no need for George to be in Lenoir's study to gain access.

Re: Errors in books
There is an error that has bugged me since I read the Famous Five books as a child and more so as an adult.
In the first book Five on a Treasure Island, Julian, Dick and Anne's Father refers to Quentin as his brother Yet in the seventeenth book, Five Get into a Fix, their Mother is referred to as Mrs Barnard. In other books the children refer to themselves as Kirren.
Another discrepancy is that the village and island are called Kirren, but George say's that her Mother's family owned the land and the island, which has been given to George. So George's Mother it seems must have been called Kirren before her marriage to Quentin.
All very odd and early in the series to be anything to do with EB's dementia.

Nope, nobody ever calls any person or place Kirren...
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Predictive text catches everyone out from time to time. Does me anyhow. Welcome to the forums Owl's Dene. That error has been discussed before on this thread, I think the conclusion has to be that Enid simple made a mistake. She actually made quite a few of those, probably due to the very fast way she wrote.

Yes, Enid Blyton seems to have got into a muddle over the surnames. Welcome to the website and forums!

I believe Enid herself was asked the question and said it was a mistake. Welcome Owl's Dene. I hope you enjoy browsing the forums and the other features this website offers.

Re: Errors in books
It was somewhat ironic... no offence intended.
Edited to add: I should have caveated the above. I believe there was an annual of "Five on Kirren Island," for the 70s series. Or "Five on Kitten Island" on the odd eBay listing.
Incidentally my phone doesn't like Kirrin either. It thinks that Kirin or Kerrin would be better.

Re: Errors in books
Welcome to the forums, Owl@s Dene (is that a text error as the @ is above the apostrophe on the keyboard?). If intentional, humble apologies!
Yes, Enid got into quite a state with names and relationships with the ancestry. The problem is, everyone is called Kirrin! There seems to be confusion as to whether Fanny or Quentin is the sibling of Julian's father (we never get to know his Christian name). The 'other' segment of the family was briefly called Barnyard in one book, the fisherboy started off as James (first edition) then became Alf (ibid) and in later stories reverted to James again.
These errors may be seem to be minor, but have always been a distraction for me.
I will have to look up the meaning of caveated later.
