I have a feeling Norman Wright was the person I wrote to age 15yo when I was trying to find out if a book from my Mum's collection (The White Riders by Monica Edwards) had any more books in the series, because she didn't know. He wrote a lovely letter back with a list of Monica Edwards books and suggested I tried second hand book shops.

Thus began my love of second hand books.
He has a lot to answer for (and the cause of much money spent.) :D

Thanks, Norman!

I enjoyed reading that again, Pete - it's a lovely article. The children on the cover of The Secret Island are not "loading up the boat ready for their departure to the island" though. They're already on the island and they're loading up the boat with baskets of fruit and mushrooms for Jack to sell at a village market. We've commented before that the children look remarkably clean and tidy!

The Secret Mountain is actually one of the strongest books in the Secret series in my opinion, with plenty of twists and turns and real danger in a most alluring setting, but it's always interesting to read varying views.
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."
- E. Nesbit, The Wonderful Garden.
