Thanks to Sixret I have now got a copy of the Fourth Bedside Book which turned up today. It has got a dustwrapper but it's also got printed boards of the same image as the wrapper which has surprised me, as the other Bedside books I've seen are single coloured boards. Seems strange for one book of a set to have been done with printed boards but it does look nice so it's a bit of a pity their not all like it  . It will go nicely to start off my Bedside books collection. Thank you Sixret for finding it for me :D .

As a bonus, when I opened the first page, inside it was a Happy New Year postcard that has obviously been used as the bookmark. On the back is stamped 'Hudson/Mass. Dec 31st 1910' with a postage stamp for one cent depicting Benjamin Franklin. What an unexpected surprise that was! When I get a book that's got an inscription in it I always wonder about the person behind it, who wrote it, who received it and so on, much like Diana thinking about the history of Bob's hanky in Rockingdown Manor. I can't help but wonder how many people and places this postcard has seen in all those years.

Yesterday the long awaited book by amazon.co.uk "The Children's Film Foundation" (published in 2016) arrived. Not 100% a Blyton book, BUT the 1957 CFF movie "Five on a Treasure Island" is mentioned on 5 pages, has a big photo and a long plot description in this book by Robert Shail & BFI.

By chance I discovered it last year while browsing amazon.co.uk for new BFI releases of CFF DVD's (being a big CFF fan since 1962...other than the catalogue and their website there was nothing else available on CFF or CFTF how they were called later on), so I couldn't wait for it to arrive.

For everybody who is familiar with the blytonesque CFF movies for kids and would like to know: it contains
1. The Story of the Foundation
2. The Films
3. The Personnel
4. The Audience
5. The Legacy
6. The Conclusion

In the appendixes:
1. Production chronology
2. Further Reading
3. The Cinemas
and of course an index at the end.
It contains 20 photos on 208 pages.

It's one of the most expensive books I've bought (46 £), on the other hand it's the only book on CFF I know of and it will help to look up films often in the future.

Today two more items were delivered, Le Mystère du flambeau d'argent Hachette idéal 1978 The Treasure Hunters , and the two Audio-CDs of "Der Wunderweltenbaum" (The magic Faraway-Tree). It seems to me the CDs are rather scarce, they were published 9 years ago, but it's the first time I encountered it. Some years ago a bought the CDs of "Der Zauberwald" (The enchanted wood), but I haven't seen these CDs many times either.

Wolfgang, I didn't know that the Faraway Tree was ever translated into German...must have been quite a while "after my time" :).

I have the edition from publisher Xenos 1982(Wir vom Zauberbaum), 1991 (Der Zauberbaum und seine Freunde, Der Zauberwald), they also published a number of the Award Short stories books, and from DTV (2004 Der Zauberwald, 2005 Der Wunderweltenbaum, 2006 Die Wesen vom Wunderweltenbaum). So yes, it could have been after your time, Chrissie.

I thought it was Soenke who was unwell? Yes, well done Chrissie and Wolfgang. "Der Wunderweltenbaum" — what a fantastic name for the Faraway Tree! :D Literally, "The Wonder-Worlds Tree", am I right?

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Definitely! :D
I read "Schuster Lustig" in the early 1980's (I believe that was a Nobby translation) when somebody from Erika Klopp Verlag was so kind to send me a free copy.
Then while on a trip throught the UK in 1987 I read "Family at Red Roofs" and "Smuggler Ben" in German translations, but decided that they didn't come close to FF, R series or Adventure series and never touched any other EB books again until 2008 and the "Adventurous Four" which was quite a discovery.
