Thanks fiona and Anita. I'll attempt the next.
Sorry about all the img's. Everytime I try to delete them I delete the pic!! Technology!
You'd got each link twice, Julie, all in one long line, so I deleted what wasn't needed! - Anita

I love the Famous Fives with the pictorial spines, Julie. They look so inviting.

Thanks for deleting all the imgs, Anita. It looks much tidier.
Yes, they're my favourite looking books, from the 60's. They used to look like that when I used to choose which one to buy as a child in Lewis's Manchester, and I was always spoilt for choice. At 7/6p it used to take me ages to save up for one book!Anita Bensoussane wrote:I love the Famous Fives with the pictorial spines, Julie. They look so inviting.

Yes, I'm a bit obsessive with neatness. And the fact that the most are from the 90's and look brand new adds to that book shop feel.Fiona1986 wrote:The top pic looks almost like a book shop Jen.

Are your books arranged (for the most part) by series Julie? (I've been trying to figure out what's on the bottom shelf of the first picture).

Most are, Jen-Jen. But the botton shelf is 'anything goes' . I have a mixture there, of repeats, books I've bought because of the 50's dust jackets, etc.

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!
Wow, a full set of Famous Fives with dustjackets, mostly in good condition.
That is my goal as well. When I get around to taking a picture, you can see that I'm almost there.
The adventure books also look nice even without jackets.
I saw a The Valley of Adventure, without a DJ going for R300 (about 25-26 pounds) at a second hand book sale. That's a lot more than you normally pay at such sales. I opened it and saw a printout from Abe books detailing their price and it converts to about R300. Either it was bought from Abe, or they are using the prices asked for by sellers on Abe books as a guide. They had lots of Williams as well, some quite battered, all going for high prices. The age of the bargain is over it seems.

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!
Hi all
Here are a few of mine - not all Blyton and in a bit of a mess. I must do some rearranging I have noticed!
I also collect school and adventure stories from the 20's and 30's although, like the Blytons, they are becoming very difficult to find these days and I expect my "wants" list is the same as every other collectors.
Mrs Dog is becoming increasingly concerned about the number of bookcases around the house so it's just as well I'm slowing down on the number of new additions.
The only real "find" I have had in the last few years are the three A.A.Milne 1st editions "Winnie the Pooh," "Now We are Six" and "When We were very Young" - the brown trio on the left of the bookcase with the curved top - found in a charity shop in Manchester about five years ago!
cheers
Timmy

Wow, what a fantastic book collection. I'm absolutely green with envy. I love the curved bookcase.

Do I spy two copies of The Famous Five Special there?
Also - random question, but as it looks like you're wraping your DJs in mylar sleeving or similar, where are you getting it from? Tho granted all the prices I've seen are much of a muchness.

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!
Glad you like them
Katharine - Yes, I do have some Chalet series 1sts - they're on the bookcase with Noddy sitting on the top, 2nd shelf down. I must admit Brent-Dyer isn't one of the authors I particularly like so I have never been very active in trying to find them. Angela Brazil would be my favourite Girls school stories writer. I have several of her own personal copies. On the boys side my favourites are Percy Westerman - I have over 100 of his with 1st wrappers - and Frank Richards Billy Bunter series.

Amazing collection Timmy. They all look to be in marvellous condition too.

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!
A fabulous collection of books - particularly for a dog! I'm sure you are way ahead of me, but at least I can beat you on the Bunter's as I have 32 out of the 38 - I am not even sure why as I don't really collect them, but if it comes to that I have about 70 Biggles books and I don't really collect them either!
