Famous Five Boxed Set

Post by Jo-Jo »

Hello Everyone, I'm new to the society and just wanted to let you know (if you are not already aware) of a new set of Famous Five Books which has just been published. Books 1-10 are available in a slipcase, in paperback. WH Smith online are selling them at £12.99, against a recommended retail price of £49.99. Wonderful value, as I'm sure you will agree, and even more so if you type in 20PRIV into the Promotion Code Box, which will give you an extra 20% discount.

Hallo Jo-Jo, welcome to the forums and to the EB Society. Please tell us a bit about yourself, we are not nosy, we just like to know!

I picked a W H Smith Catalogue the other day (hoping to get inspired for Christmas) and I noticed the Famous Five boxed set in it, as you say great value for money and it looks like they have the Eileen Soper illustrations too. It also listed a St Clare's boxed set (8 books) and a Naughtiest Girl boxed set (10 books), the latter containing more books by Ann Digby than by Enid Blyton.

I hope you enjoy being a member of the Society and post regularly on the forums.

Kate.

Hope Jo-Jo really is a Society member, and not just someone from WHSmith online. Though people may be interested to know about the books. Sorry for being suspicious if you genuinely joined these Forums to talk about Enid Blyton, Jo-Jo! As Kate said, please introduce yourself and tell us about your favourite books.

Welcome to the forums Jo-Jo. On the board index is a post that says Introduce Yourself. It would be nice to hear from you if you're a fan of our favourite author.

Sorry, but I remain unconvinced that this isn't Spam! I guess as it's not unconnected to our interests, it is possibly more Luncheon Meat than genuine Spam.

Aargh - really sorry Nigel, but I seem to have lost part of your post! Think I must have pressed "edit" instead of "quote"!

Sorry!

What I wanted to do was add that I was quite ready to eat my hat too - but that I doubted we'd have to!

I'm off to Dame Slap to be suitably punished!

I remember that you pointed out that the books are also available on play.com (£11.99) and elsewhere.

As I said to Anita privately, just now, I am rather surprised that a publicity person would choose the name Jo-Jo. Especially as he is now reffered to as Joe in the books! Therefore I imagine that Jo-Jo is a Blyton fan. If this was Family Fortunes and the team had to choose the top five names that a survey of 100 people had come up with, I wouldn't think Jo-Jo would be there!

Come on Jo-Jo, put us out of our misery or I'll never go into Smith's again!

I seem to have caused a bit of a stir with my maiden posting. I'm really nothing at all to do with W H Smith (though I do buy a lot of my books through their website), so dig that hat out Nigel and get chomping. Will introduce myself to you shortly. (By the way, the name Jo-Jo is made up from the first two letters in my christian name and surname)

Jolly sorry to have been so suspicious, Jo-Jo! Hope we (or some of us at least) don't seem too horrid for words! Please help yourself to an upturned flowerpot and a cushion and make yourself at home in the shed. Do have some gingerbread or a rock bun - or even a spam sandwich if you prefer!

Hmmm, I wonder what kind of seasoning will make my hat more palatable? I'll have to ask Nigel (Moonraker) - he's eaten many a hat in his time!

Thanks for that Anita. I was a bit surprised at the initial reaction, I must admit, but no harm done.

Sorry Jo-Jo (you're not the snooker player, Joe Johnson, are you?); I guess we're getting too sceptical in our dotage. Maybe I'll try some fresh veg with my hat later tonight.

Anita, don't forget to take out the hat-pins.

I saw these boxed sets in the WHSmith book too, and couldnt help feeling that £49.00 was a bit of a steep price. the 'reduced' price is far more realistic, surely, for a set of books that is already available as individual volumes? :?

I'll warm me with your echoes

Well, £49.99 is not a steep price, just the normal price of each paperback multiliplied by 10, which is the number of volumes in the set, so £12.99 does represent outstanding value. I hope that the remaining volumes will be published soon.
