Please remind me where Castaway was - and the 'Hollow' reference? All I can think of was Hollow Tree House!

Thanks.

Hello everyone, :)

Castaway is where Smugglers' Top is and Big Hollow House is where Professor Hayling and Tinker live in Five are Together Again. Others I had to check are Blue Pond Farm from Five on a Hike Together; and Tremannon Farm from Five Go Down to the Sea.

Kirrin, can we add Faynights Castle, the location of Five Have a Wonderful Time, and Mystery Moor to the choices, please?

And the Whispering Island that is 'there still' as Enid said in her foreword.

Mine have to be Kirrin Island and Whispering Island.

Something about Kirrin Island that is completely magical as was said.

Also the ruined castle, jackdaws in the runied tower, buried treasure...the mysterious cave which is discovered in Five Run Away together and the deadly rocks that bar the entrance so only a skilled pilot can gain entrance!

Kirrin, what I meant to say is - please can you add the other locations? As you set up the poll, I don't think anyone else has access. We're only allowed to amend our own postings. :)

PS I think you're going to be the first to 100 postings. Anita's and Tony's aren't counted. Not that it's a competition!

I had to vote for Castaway. Amazed that I'm the only one. Yeah, Kirrin Island is a very close 2nd for me, but Castaway - the wall round the town, the catacombs, secret passages, Smuggler's Top, marshes, smugglers.............but then, if the marshes are drained much of the atmosphere will have been drained too............so, maybe, just maybe......

100 posts golly I cant hardly believe it!

How do I edit or delete a poll?
As with posts, polls can only be edited by the original poster, a moderator, or board administrator. To edit a poll, click the first post in the topic, which always has the poll associated with it. If no one has cast a vote then users can delete the poll or edit any poll option. However, if people have already placed votes only moderators or administrators can edit or delete it; this is to prevent people rigging polls by changing options mid-way through a poll

Looks like I cant booklover!

Can't amend the poll - that's bad luck, Kirrin!

I would have to go for Castaway, the location of Smugglers' Top - with the marshes and the mist, it's very gothic, like something from 19th century literature. (That's my vote - but the poll won't let me vote for some reason. :? )

Kirrin Island was fine - until Uncle Quentin took it over in Kirrin Island Again for his scientific experiments. I think it lost some of its magic when that happened.

Regarding the FF locations; have you read the little book by Vivienne Endecott "The Dorset Days of Enid Blyton"? She identifies locations in Dorset that may have inspired EB, such as the real life Finniston Farm. Not just for the Five books though, I was very impressed by the photo of
Lulworth Castle in the book, it apparently has the same floor plan as Malory Towers.

Hi Kirrin!
I can't find "The Dorset Days of Enid Blyton" online at WHSmiths or Amazon but you can get it here:

http://www.gingerpop.co.uk/publications.htm

I think they published it.
