I will, Rob, as soon as our printer cartridge gets replaced (it's still not totally used up, but unfortunately there is not enough ink left to print it out).

I know its not likely the inspiration. But when I think of Kirrin, I always envision Robin Hood's Bay, just with an island nearby.

It's a month since it ran out Chrissie, why are you having to wait so long?

Re: The Landscape of Kirrin?
John, I haven't printed out much lately (just Duncan's new analysis about "Panto Cat").
However, from past experience I know that as soon as I'll try to print it out in order to read it, the printer cartridge will give up.
So I'm still waiting for our cyan cartridge to be replaced (hopefully soon!!! ).
There never was a cartridge in the past in any of our printers that was still printing out 5 or 6 weeks after it first started blinking red.

Re: The Landscape of Kirrin?
If you are only printing text (black) then surely you won't use the cyan cartridge. ??? You can also instruct the printer to just print in black rather than colour so it will only use the black cartridge.

Re: The Landscape of Kirrin?
John, yes, I've heard that there is a way how to print in black only, but we don't know how to do it.
So we just wait until cyan will be entirely used up (hopefully soon!).

Re: The Landscape of Kirrin?
Chrissie, it depends on your printer but I would imagine most printers are similar in the action you carry out.
I have an HP printer and this is what I have to do when printing a document from 'Word'
After selecting 'Print' I get this page:
I then select 'Printer properties' (arrowed in yellow) and the following window opens:
Select the tab at the top that says 'Paper/Quality' and click the 'Black & White' option button followed by 'OK'
You will then print in B&W.
You may have to remember to change it back to 'Colour' before you revert to printing in colour.
However, if the document you are wanting to print in B&W is only in B&W on-screen then the printer should only use the B&W cartridge anyway. However, to be sure it's probably best to make the change described.

Re: The Landscape of Kirrin?
Here's the view overlooking Poole Harbour from off the Corfe to Studland road, which Enid describes the Five seeing during their cycle ride up to Hill Cottage in 'Five have a Mystery to Solve. This lay by is a matter of a hundred yards or so before the isle of Purbeck Golf Course is reached. Interestingly, there's a small chalk quarry located on the slip road that runs down to Swanage. Perhaps this influenced Enid when describing the White stone that the castle on 'Keep away island' was built from? Brownsea island lies in the middle of the Harbour and can just be made out in the pic below.
