At least Anne will have one vote! I've always liked her - she seems to be well-balanced, sensible, kind, George even seems as if she might be quite dependent on her at school. And I must admit I'd have loved open air cooking and playing house in a caravan much better than being stuck in an underground tunnel. I love how Julian seems to think he's in control of Anne, but she actually is just doing what she enjoys!

sorry - it has to be George. She's based on Enid, and this shows, because she is one of Blyton's most rounded characters with both good and bad traits. She is by far the most realistic of the Five.
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

I voted for Anne. Because if I want my tea cooked for me, she's the only option - of the other four, I'd have as good a chance of Timmy cooking as the other three. (I dare say Julian would take absolute control of a barbecue.)
Seriously, I always liked Anne, probably because she was (a) girly, and (b) young. I always preferred younger children - less bother. Children my own age got in my way, and girls were less aggressive than boys (usually!). And she had a bit more sense about not wanting to climb into all these caves and tunnels.

Re: Famous Five
Like Jools I had a crush on Julian as a child!
Although I still think he is the best of the FFs! I loved the way he stood up to Pa Stick, so polite and yet so rude! Plus he always looked out for the other three.

"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

I have to admit that I voted for George, too - more because she was my absolute favourite when I was younger, than for any other reason! I loved the fact that she had her own castle and island (not to mention the wreck), and because she was always so fierce to her enemies and loyal to her friends. However, I find that Dick is by far the funniest, and I can appreciate Julian's sense and cutting tongue that seems to get them all out of tricky situations, especially faced with the Sticks and the baddies from Five Get Into Trouble.

Me Too! Sorry!
Julian for me. I liked the way he took charge- I was only eight when I first read the books, so i couldn't see the flaws- I can now, but I still like him the best! sorry

"You're so sharp you'll cut yourself one day!" Hunchy said going to the door
"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.
