I like the pamela cox ones , when I read them I didn't even know that it was written by someone else, till my mum told me years later. ;)

As I've posted elsewhere, I don't like them. I thought they were stereotypical and it was like someone had picked out all the stereotypical Blyton phrases and jammed them into two books. I agree with what Moose wrote somewhere else about the St. Clare's books not being as well spaced as the MT books but even so I don't think any more books were needed - SC was complete as it was.

My biggest bugbear though is when names are changed - as in Adventurous Four - Shipwrecked. Okay so the girl's names were a bit outdated but who cares?! DOes it really make that much of a difference?!

I do wish the the SC book had been better spaced by Blyton herself - one per year, as she did with MT, would have been a good deal better and I've never understood why she used the format she did - or whether it was even intentional. But yeah, I consider only the six books that she wrote to be MT books. Which is not meant to be offensive to Cox, who at least had done her research.

I wasn't very fond of the additional St Clares books - they didn't quite ring true. They read like fanfiction, albeit quite good fanfiction.

The non-Blyton Blytons that I like are the additional Secret Sevens by Lallemand. To me they read like Blyton. (Although of them I only have The Seven and the Lion Hunt, TS and the Magician, and TS Strike Gold.)

hello and welcome :). I've not read the additional SS books - SS are one of the few Blytons series's that I never really warmed to :(

Well, I'm not terribly fond of them either compared to her other books. Too many characters and not enough development seems to be one of the issues! But I find them okay for a quick read.

(Thanks for the welcome :) )

Yeah I guess she did introduce quite a lot of new characters. I liked Lady Fizz Bentley in the last book .. that struck me as the sort of scam that one of Blyton's characters might well have pulled off :)

That "Fizz Bentley" trick was used by Christine Chaundler in "The Chivalrous Fifth", although it was more of a spur of the moment thing in that book.

Ah .. I guess there are no new ideas under the sun :) Still it struck me as something that Blyton herself might have done tho.

hmmm yes true :). I think it was a very Blytonian idea though, to have a girl who was from a very good family disguise herself as being from a common family. After all, something similar happened with Carlotta who had to pretend that she wasn't from the background that she was from..

I liked them as boarding school books, and the 6th one I liked as 'non cannon', but as an idea of what happened after, I thought that one was actually really well done and fits in the series quite ell. I don't like the other one, its like an imposter stuck in the middle of the series. I like it as a book to read I mean, it just sticks out as if it doesn't belong, maybe the whole bringing in new characters and making them all go again thing? Which is probably an effect of it being a middle book, but It just doesn't sit well with me.
But the 6th one I loved, and thought the Fizz Bently thing was great.
