To Peterswood via Bourne End and Twitter

Recent Enid Blyton Society member Chindu Sreedharan has been in Bourne End on trail of the Find Outers. He reports back on what is an interesting Twitter thread. It can be found at @Chindu

While I'm at it, can I put out a shout for my own Twitter handle @duncan_mclaren I use this mostly for Evelyn Waugh related posts but occasionally for Enid ones. I so enjoyed your overview of the Mystery Books:

BOURNE END FOREVER
This section of the site is about Enid’s marvellous Mystery series. I thought of using the umbrella term ‘PETERSWOOD FOREVER’ for the following pages, as the name of Fatty and the Find-Outers fictional village is Peterswood. But Enid was always thinking of Bourne End as she typed and was constantly drawing on its layout, a layout that exists to this day. So on balance I’ve gone for the real place-name.

Will you ever be doing any other books in this manner by Enid Blyton?
I would love you to take a forensic overview of any other Blyton's.
I know Chrissie really loves to read and re-read you Blyton work too!

Thanks, Pete. I had got myself locked out of the Forums through a password mix-up. So I wasn't able to draw attention to a letter in support of Enid Blyton's originality that can be found on p.65 of the Christmas edition of The Spectator. It's a letter that I'm proud of!

No plans to dig into other Enid Blyton books but I don't think I'm finished with the Find Outers. When I get another way in, I'll be all over them again!

Perhaps Chindhu will find another angle. Thanks for pointing out the correct thread, Boatbuilder.

I'm sure Fatty would devise a way to remember his password - as he did with the car reg of the Chief Inspector!! (From memory JGF... I forget the rest!!!!)

Thanks for the password advice, Pete. From now on it will be FATTYBURNTCOTTAGE. Then when I forget it I will go onto FATTYDISAPPEARINGCAT. And so on...

In the review of Spiteful Letters you say you can't locate the church.

She refers to the location as 'the church corner'. Francis Frith produced a post card in 1955 (I can't provide a link, but it is easily found on the web) of 'The Corner' in Bourne End. So I assume the photo is/was of a place known locally as such.

Is it possible that she imagined a church here? One with a tower from which the clock bell strikes loudly (Pantomime Cat).
