Famous Five in Retro Magazine

There is a two page article entitled “Famous Five Seventies-Style” (pages 4 & 5) in the latest issue of “Yours Retro” (issue 21). It claims that “sausages were hidden under the folds of the children’s anoraks to encourage Timmy to jump all over them!” Interesting.

Tis a true fact, Eddie. The sausages were indeed used to encourage Toddy (Timmy)...and Jack is right, too. Gary Russell has written and talked about this on a few occasions. I seem to recall that it was also mentioned in one or two interviews/articles about the F5 TV series that featured in the late 1970's Look-in comic for kids.

Thanks for letting us know, Eddie. I've bought the magazine and enjoyed the article. The photo of the Five with the caravan is lovely. What a pity it isn't in colour. Some of the other articles look good too, e.g. the ones on Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road; voicing animations (including Bagpuss, Danger Mouse, Roobarb and Custard, Mr. Benn, Paddington, Willo the Wisp and Mary, Mungo & Midge); films which involve an actor playing two or more roles (such as Hayley Mills in The Parent Trap); and the lifelong friendship between Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney.
