It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

What an attractive house, and how nice it would be to live where Enid once dwelt - but we've discovered the delights of country living in Wales now so it'll just have to be the Society pied-a-terre!

Interesting that Elfin Cottage is for sale. I wonder whether the Enid Blyton connection affects the price? Having a house with a blue plaque would feel special but you'd have to put up with people peering at your property and taking photos.

I can't imagine people wanting to stop and take photos of a house just because it had a blue plaque on it. Surely no one would be interested in locating all the houses a famous person had lived in and walking round to look at them?

Oh I don't know. Some people travel miles to see a place where a favourite series was filmed. Seriously though, I think the main attraction then was to meet fellow forumites. That was my motive anyway.

I took a photo of a house near us that has a blue plaque - the house where AE Housman lived in Bourne Heath. Worcestershire. :-D

I've also been to take a photo of Tony Hancock's birthplace in Acocks Green, Birmingham - although this doesn't have a blue plaque - just a normal one.

Image

I've never gone around the country purposefully looking for plaques, but if you know of houses that have them, its always interesting to check them out if you're in the area. When we were in Ulverston in Cumbria we did actually go in search of Stan Laurel's birthplace, and took a photo of that plaque too - but that wasn't a blue one either, surprisingly! :D

I guess some people do actually purposefully go around the country collecting blue plaques, so to speak - a bit like train spotting!
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

There used to be a blue plaque on a house near me. After several bus trips passed it I managed to read it.It read something like " At this house in 1979 absolutely nothing of note happened"

That’s great, Jack. I must get a blue plaque like that for my house.

:D Here's one like that (you can buy it here):

Or this one is a lot more expensive, but can be customised with any text (and it looks more like a "real" blue plaque):
