I must say, before I saw this thread, I always assumed that Enid's "Elfin Cottage" must have been a quaint little centuries-old affair half-hidden in the woods somewhere, not a newly-built modern house! But she obviously saw a good deal of character even in such a new building and it's very enjoyable to read about how she found it and how she and Hugh made it their own.
