ENID, 1924

Post by Green Hedges »

Last December, I realized that Enid's diary for 1924, when combined with her weekly essays for Teachers World in that year, the year she married Hugh Pollock, added up to something quite exciting. Once I'd put the material together I sent it to Hachette - which owns the copyright. Alexandra Antscherl, the editorial director at Enid Blyton Entertainment enjoyed it, but, in the end was persuaded by her colleagues that it wouldn't work commercially. The silver lining is that I've been given permission to put what I think is wonderfully evocative material on my EB website. Enid Blyton: teacher, writer, lover, friend.

There is an introduction here: http://www.enidblyton.me.uk/styled-31/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; And that's followed by JANUARY. I thought I'd feed subsequent months in at weekly intervals. Hope it gives much pleasure to Blyton aficionados.

It sounds really interesting, and I'm looking forward to reading it all. Shame you weren't able to get it printed, I'd certainly have bought a copy.

Many thanks for this, Duncan. It sounds as though you've been getting the same super-cautious approach from many publishers that I have!

You think Duncan's just pottering about doing his own thing and then wham, he produces another Enid Blyton special for us!

Cheers Duncan! :D

Thanks all for the welcoming words.

I've just posted the diary and TW essays from February 1924, one of the most significant months in Enid's life.
