Such pools are usually natural - the way the rocks have formed. There are a few in various parts of the country - obviously on the coast! The sea comes in and changes the water twice a day!

I haven't been there myself, but I would guess probably to make a safe place for swimming without the danger of waves and rip currents.

Yes, I believe the Dancing Ledge pool was created so that pupils from local schools could swim there rather than going into the sea with its strong currents.

there are several reasons, I guess. As people have said, it would be safer as there would be no tides, and also no waves, plus it would also warm up better than the sea on a hot day, I guess.

Having grown up by a surf beach with sometimes dangerous currents and huge waves, I can vouch for the fact that a pool is a lot safer and easier to learn to swim in!!

I've been told we have to go to the Bovington Tank Museum too, so the Mr has something that he likes (how he can't love mysteries adventures, caves and secret places I don't know) but I'm sure we can whizz around there in a few hours and get back to my EB pilgrimage!

If he likes his History, then Moreton village isn't too far from the Tank Museum. Here can be found the grave of TE Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia. His Cottage (Clouds Hill) is just North of here, which is now in the hands of the National Trust. Bovington Camp (Tank museum) is where TE once worked, & sadly died after a motorcycle accident close to his home. Moreton has a lovely little tea room, formally an Infant School, & the Church has some beautiful etched Windows.

Tynham Village is a must too, if you have time. Nothing to do with Enid, but such a sad place to visit, as it was once a lovely village before the war, then it had to be evacuated, so the Military could use it in the 2nd World War, and it's never been given back to them.

Oh yes, that's a good choice, Julie! I've been a few times before. The Church has been kept in immaculate condition by the Army. whereas the rest of the village is in ruins. A very interesting & thought provoking place.
