Happy Birthday, Enid!
Today would have been Enid Blyton's 118th birthday, and the Enid Blyton Estate are holding a big celebration down at Corfe Castle. Anybody going?

Maybe Viv? Why is this particular year significant I wonder.

It doesn't have to be a significant year. Viv used to organise an event every year on Enid Blyton's birthday.
This year, the birthday celebrations are part of the Enid Blyton Summer of Adventure:

Re: Happy Birthday, Enid!
Viv was looking for volunteers last week to go and promote Blyton and the society at the gates of Corfe Castle. Sadly I was unable to go as it would have made an interesting day. I wonder how it all went off.

Pity it wasn't a few weeks before. I was in Swanage & could've easily had a day off the Wildlife studies I was doing for Durlston Country Park! Hope Viv managed to get someone to do it!

Hope we'll hear from Viv as to whether she managed to drum up some interest in her shop as well. I hope so.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I hope the celebration is proving to be a huge success.

I hope the Summer of Adventure celebrations went well and lots of people spent their money in Viv's shop.

I hope the celebrations were successful. Bit far for me to go, but I would have loved to if I lived locally.

Happy 119th Birthday to Enid. I'm reading "The Mystery of the Invisible Thief" to celebrate.

Re: Happy Birthday, Enid!
When I looked at my calendar this morning, I kept thinking '11th August - I'm sure there's something significant about that date'. A quick check told me I hadn't missed a friend or family birthday or anniversary.
I'm obviously not such a big Enid Blyton fan as I thought I was if I didn't instantly remember it was her birthday.

An EBS party in Enid's memory would be lovely, Julie.

Happy Birthday to Enid. It's a shame there's not a lot of media coverage about her birthday. The only article I could find was in the Hindustan Times. Rather than celebrate her writing, it shares some of the "lesser-known facts" about the author, and a reading list . It's very negative and inaccurate in my mind churning out the usual myths about her work being sexist and racist and produced by "ghostwriters", and has made me quite angry reading it. It's not much of a celebration! http://www.hindustantimes.com/books/cel ... hwLcL.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
