Re: How Did Enid Write So Much?
I did post a couple of my stories on various threads. Here's Matchsticks and Goblins which won 1st prize in the Sid Chaplin Writing Competition 2013
And The Riddle of the Phantom Hand which won 2nd in the Darlington Literacy Festival Competition (and my other story which I didn't post here came 1st!)
You could find a few of my other short stories in anthologies such as The Red House Young Writer's Yearbook 2011 and The Darlington Literacy Festival Anthology (the latter which I'm not sure has been published quite yet!)
I've not had much time for entering competitions this year, though, unfortunately... I've been focussing on a different genre: script writing... I've actually prepared a Malory Towers script for a small village acting group. They are very pleased with it and are currently just adding several minor edits for the efficiency of their space-issues, etc. But I am very pleased with this achievement and look forward to going and seeing the play being performed!

Re: How Did Enid Write So Much?
I dabbled in a bit of script writing when I was in my early 20s, it's fun isn't it! I never actually put any on anywhere but it was good to write them!
I really liked writing the stage directions and the descriptions of what each character does as they say their lines.
I suppose some people would say that it's the same as writing a book, as you're writing speech and describing scenarios in both a book and a script, but I found it very different and it was fun!
That's great that you're putting on Malory Towers, if I lived nearer I'd come and watch it!

Re: How Did Enid Write So Much?
First of all, I'm very sorry I did not comment on the stories when you posted them, Poppy, for though I read them as soon as you posted the links, I totally forgot to comment about them too.
I must say "Matchsticks and Goblins" was a very sweet, Blyton like story, which I loved, but the other one was rather creepy, although well-written - it was the kind of a story which has multiple endings, so I must appreciate that at an early age you wrote a very different story!
Could you please post or PM me the story which won first prize too? "The Raven’s Riddle" sounds like an exciting name!

Re: How Did Enid Write So Much?
Thanks Farwa! Your comments are much appreciated. Yes, I did write a very large variety of stories when I was entering these competitions. They were both for separate competitions with different themes. Matchsticks and Goblins was for a competition with an Open Theme. The Raven's Riddle and The Riddle of the Phantom Hand were for a competition with a theme based on Lewis Carol's famous quotation: Why is a Raven Like a Writing Desk? Yes, I will try and PM you The Raven's Riddle, tomorrow.

Re: How Did Enid Write So Much?
Again I remember reading that Enid Blyton write directly with type writer machine. I wonder she was or was not hand writing her story before hand. When using type writer I assume Enid confident that her writing required little amendment.

Re: How Did Enid Write So Much?
Enid Blyton composed her stories straight onto a typewriter before going through the typescript and making corrections/changes by hand. After that, a typist would type up a "fair copy" to be sent to the publisher.
Sometimes, Enid wrote (in pen or pencil) a brief outline of a plot before she began typing. The outline would be a couple of pages long and many of these initial ideas would be altered or dropped as the story took shape, with new threads and characters being added. Tony has Enid's notes for the Malory Towers books (or at least for some of them).
