Found your post fascinating ,Maureen. Strangely I did the trip from Bournemouth to visit Sue Bell years ago (and spent hours perusing her wonderful Blyton collection) and on the way, rounded the corner and there was Corfe castle, just as Enid so brilliantly described!

I have always thought that Soper's illustration was so very like Corfe, but it has been suggested that one ruin much like another .

However, if Soper saw the photo in Teachers World it is still possible. (Must not go on about this as have banged on too often in the past!)

I will look to see if I have that Teachers World but fear I might have sold it. If not, Anita may have it.

Anway, it is all really interesting!

I have 9 copies of Teachers World Liz, all of which I bought from you, and they make for great reading. They all date from 1924 or 1925 though, so I'm afraid I haven't got the 1931 one.

Teachers World was a magazine for teachers. It included educational articles and stories and other material which could be used in the classroom. Enid Blyton used to write for it regularly.

The Teachers World magazines are old and probably quite hard to get, and each one published in the Blyton era has only a little Enid Blyton content. However, they're listed in the Cave of Books and some of Enid Blyton's contributions can be read there (scroll down to The Teachers World and click on them issue by issue):
