Unusual facts about Enid Blyton

Post by Belly »

Can anyone come up with a couple of facts about Enid Blyton that people don't generally know?

Putting my thinking cap on now...For example:

1. She was married twice
2. She was a head girl

An interesting thread, Belly. :D

I feel sure that most Blyton devotees will know that Enid's middle name was Mary. Did you know that it was also the middle name of her two daughters, Gillian and Imogen? In the weekly magazine, Teachers' World Enid wrote at the time of Imogen's birth in 1935: "... there are now three Marys at Old Thatch - Enid Mary, Gillian Mary and Imogen Mary."
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

Unless anyone knows better...

I think that the partnership she had with Eileen Soper was the most prolific and amongst the longest lasting of any author and artist

Put Soper into the search box of The Cave of Books and you get
156 results for Soper in books
85 results for Soper in short stories and poems

Plus things like greetings cards, posters for the Nature Readers etc.

The sheer range of artwork is as wide as their imaginations as well. Detailed nature work, toys coming to life, fairies, escaping down a secret passage - Soper did the lot supremely well!

Absolutely spot-on Viv. I think her work is wonderful and the original FF series just would not be the same without her illustrations (we'll forgive her the telescope  )
It's such a shame that H & S chucked all the originals in a skip
see you in August
