I met Enid

Post by VeeeB »

I came across this site purely by chance, and thought ,possibly, some posters may be interested in my story.I am now 67,and years ago,I lived in Westminster,London..and almost LIVED in the local library !I was an avid reader of all books, but my favourite was Enid Blyton, and its safe to say,I was given most of her albums etc as either Christmas or birthday gifts. One day,I was excited to be told I had been chosen as one of two children to be guests at a Christmas party given by Enid.A girl and a boy were each selected from local London libraries. Being very young,(about 9)..I cant remember exactly WHERE the party was held..but,I DO recall having great fun at it! Everything was provided to ensure kids enjoyed the event..food,soft drinks, games, entertainment etc..with the highlight being the entrance of the great lady herself.Every child was introduced to her and each of us received a copy of her then latest album, which she signed individually. How I wish I had kept it! I have no idea what became of it during the following years...but the memory of that day,has always remained with me.

Welcome, VeeeB! I'm a bit confused - what do you mean by "albums"? Are they photo albums, or do you mean "books"? In any event, you will always have that memory of meeting Enid with you.

How I would have loved that! What were your impressions of her? How did she appear to you?

I remember corresponding with Gillian Baverstock (her daughter) and the thrill and delight I felt. I also had the honour of meeting her as an adult and thought what a wonderfully warm lady she was :) .

Wow, I envy you! I would be glad if I could met my favourite author - I would really kissed her hand and thanked her for the pleasure she granted me in reading her lovely stories. The other person I would really like to meet (unfortunately she is now dead as well) is Astrid Lindgren (Pippi Longstocking etc.)
