Famous Five The Musical

Post by Susie »

I loved the musical, the lyrics songs were amazing, and the jokes the crooks made were hilerious.
John from S club 7 acted as Julian.
Not sure about the rest of the cast.
I don't know about you, but the song "Life in london can be tidiois."
I'm always singing it when life gets tough.

Have'nt seen it and I'm afraid I'm not really that interested. I'm not a big fan of musicals and I like my Famous Five just the way Enid wrote them.

It's good that the name is out there being publicised though.

This dvd appears from time to time in "value" bookshops and garden centres, usually priced at under a fiver.

They would have to pay me more than that to watch it.

I hate musicals, and can think of nothing worse that having to listen to Julian singing pompously to nasty little gyspy children.

lizarfau and peter pan: You can get it on EBay I got the video for £1, the DVD was going for more at the time. Timmy does have a part, he starts to dance, and then goes in a little toy car.

They do it in the theater, so you can hear the children going ooh, when the crooks almost shoot the FF.

Moonraker: There is no gypsy girl in it, only Aunt Fanny, Uncle Quintin, the FF, the two crooks the tutor, who comes to teach the five.

If any of you buy it, and don't get some words to the song Pm me and ill send you the words. :)

Hi Susie,
did you mean "Smuggler's Gold"?
I've found a German website with few short demonstrations to the
musical. But I'm honest . I prefer the 78/79 TV-series.

If you wanna risk a look and both ears ...please!
http://ff5.lgfb.de/
*clickclick on the German flag.
*click on "Medien" *scroll down to the bottom
*click on "Filme und Musicals" *scroll down to "Smugglers Gold"
There are short audio demonstrations
below the given point "Kostproben"(means:ear candy for Nigel).

Kostproben:
Julian, Dick, Anne, George: "We are the Famous Five"
Quentin: Difficult Age
Quentin: In the middle of the night
Bösewichte: Synchronize Watches
Bösewichte: Incognito

Thanks for the link, PeterPan. I've never seen the musical but I'd like to watch it out of curiosity. From what I heard on the link, I thought the actors who played Uncle Quentin and Aunt Fanny seemed pretty good. I wouldn't have very high expectations, though. Somehow, a musical version of the Famous Five seems a bit odd to me and I'd prefer to see an ordinary play version.

Hi Peter pan, Sorry I should of made myself clear, its called "The famous five musical, Five go to smugglers Gold!" (Long name) I got it off EBay, but Amazon also sell it, and you can rent it.

This is what it looks like.

Copy and pasted from amazon review

This is a DVD taken from a live recording of the 'Smuggler's Gold' musical stage show. As such the action is naturally very 'stage bound', but picture quality and sound are quite good. The musical is based on Enid Blyton`s classic books (but not any book in particular) and "this unique musical production was filmed during its smash nationwide tour".

This musical was made to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Enid Blyton's birth (~1995). Starring Elizabeth Marsland, Lyndon Ogbourne, Matthew Johnson, and Vicky Taylor, it also features Jon Lee as Julian (b. 26 April 1982), a busy child actor (e.g. schoolboy Josh in EastEnders) who joined S Club 7 in 1999.

You obviously didn't see my post under Five Go Adventuring Again, Susie, but that was the book it was based on.

I saw your post, but didn't put it togethe that, that was it. It was the 1938 bit that confused me.
So you mean to say you actually went to see it?

I've just watched it on Youtube and it's very good! I think Petermax's uploaded it only a week ago. (Thank you very much! :D)

Looks like a mixture of Five On a Treasure Island and Five Go Adventuring Again with changes here and there to make them smoothly merged. However, the main concepts of the characters are correctly presented and it certainly reminds me of the original books. I really enjoyed the part where George tell the rest about the story of the shipwreck.

Thanks for the image, Tony! So, the part on YouTube is played by the Green Team. Makes me wonder how the rest are like.

I've just started to watch this on You Tube, posted there by Petermax. (Thanks for that Petermax) it's in 8 parts and I'm up to part 5. It's really very good surprisingly. A lot of humour has been injected, and the dog who plays Timmy is very good.
Julian is a good looking boy, Dick not so good, George is a good actress and Anne a little bit ropey. What I like is that it is based in the 1930's.

They did spell Kirrin Cottage as Kirren. Why they have to misspell when the books are so clearly printed is a mystery.
I will finish watching all the parts as I'm intrigued to see the ending.

8)
Julian gave an exclamation and nudged George.
"See that? It's the black Bentley again. KMF 102!"
