A question on The Chase asked which children's author wrote a book about an adventure on Finniston Farm. . Paul Sinha correctly answered.

I was watching a recording of last Monday's 'DIY SOS' (BBC1) a couple of days ago which was in Barnstaple to modify a house in which two of their three young triplet girls had suffered terrible health problems since not too long after birth and they both now need dialysis four times a week where one of them has to travel to and from Bristol for those sessions. The other one is able to have hers at home but the facilities in the house weren't adequate for them both to have the treatment at home. The 'team' renovated the house so that they would both be able to have the treatment at home thus avoiding the 200 miles round trip each time to Bristol.

When the house was completed, they showed one of the rooms and there on a shelf was a row of Enid Blyton books.

Yes, I spotted that, but forgot to mention it. Well I definitely spotted the Faraway Tree books. :D

While watching the 1976 TV series Nobody's House, I spotted a copy of Third Year at Malory Towers in a row of books in a girl's bedroom.

I misread that for a moment as Noddy's House and was wondering why on earth Anita would be watching something like that...

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

This may have been mentioned before, but I just switched on the TV and the only thing of interest was The Chase which was almost finished. The question that was being asked as I tuned in was something along the lines of which author did Kenneth Darrell Waters marry in 1943. Of course I knew the answer to that, but sadly the contestants didn't - they guessed at Agatha Christie.

Two references I've come across recently.

The first was a link between episodes of The Chase. I wasn't really listening properly, but the announcer ran through the names of the Famous Five and then I think said something about there being another Famous Five along in the next programme.

The second mention was in Only Fools and Horses, episode entitled Video Nasty. They settle down to watch an adult film called "Night Nurse" by "Enid Blyton"!!!

Heavens. Blyton as I never imagined. Was there a spanking slipper as well. I am sure I read something along those lines in a book about a treacle jug ....

Now that also reminds me — a while back I was looking at the website of a bookseller that specialises in classic children's books, including plenty of Enid Blyton of course. (I won't give away which store it was, as they've found good books for me several times and I wouldn't want to embarrass them.) On this particular occasion the website had an interesting advertisement down the side: NODDY STRIPS IN RUPERT MAGAZINE.

... I knew what it actually meant, of course, but couldn't resist thinking "Does he??" :P

Watching"Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush" on TV One of the characters says "It's not Sunny Stories you know". Is this a reference to EB "Sunny Stories'"?

Gosh, that film takes me back a bit, Jack. If I remember rightly, Judy Geeson was one of the stars alongside the late Barry Evans who I think played in the 'Doctor' series on TV. Enid and I saw that in the cinema before we were married.

I think we have the book (paperback) somewhere, on which it is based.

edit: Just found this title tune on YT. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQ6-D_kdarE and noticed that Christopher Timothy who played James Herriot of 'All Creatures Great and Small' was also in the cast.
