Thanks all for your input. I agree that trying to condense a book (any book) to a 25 minute episode is going to mean that story lines are altered to fit the time constraints (and sometimes just for the sake of it!!) but I think that there are so few "wholesome" adventure shows for today's kids, that purely for their entertainment value and not as a replacement or comparison to the books I would like my children to have the opportunity to see them.
So....how likely is a UK release of the 1978 version?
At 80 pounds which would convert to nearly AU$130 plus shipping I don't think I'll be getting that one atm which is disappointing! The dutch one might be an option tho at around AU$27
