Do you have the dates when they will start Wolfgang?

Many thanks Wolfgang. In that case I calculate that I should be able to see one showing during my week in Germany. Providing my hotel has the right TV channel of course.

Someone should contact this TV station to ask them from where they got the rights to show the series. That might provide a useful clue for the campaign to get it released on DVD!

There's a German Homepage about the Famous Five, and there also is a long article (translated in English as well) that explains their goose chase from one to the other trying to get into contact with the ones who owns the rights show. Not to mention that the revelation of SuperRTL didn't help to get them much further.

Broadcast rights are a separate issue altogether from video/dvd rights. Also, the the German language version of the Famous Five probably comes under a different ownership, it must be remembered that this was a British/German co-production.

Just a reminder, today SuperRTL starts airing the series, at 14.30 CEST. There's a rerun tomorrow, 12.00 CEST.

I wish I had a satellite dish capable of receiving this channel! I only have Sky Digital, which has dozens of Asian and Arabic channels, but only two European (one French and one Spanish - no German). I know we have to suck up to ethnic minorities today but that really is disgusting, especially as we're also supposed to embrace membership of the EU (although I don't), but anyway... No doubt someone will record them all and upload them onto a certain well-known website!

In the days of Sky in analogue forum, there were several German channels available. I remember watching with fondness a programme called Tutti Fruiti - it was shown in 3-D and you had to wear special glasses to see it in its full effect...

It was so great to see them again in Five go to Smuggler's Top. Saw it yesterday. A real delicacy. Pity we can't get it on DVD with a feature "After they were famous?"

That's right - a number of German channels were available to Sky TV viewers when it was broadcast on the Astra analogue satellite. I don't remember there being any other European channels, though. Presumably Sky Digital doesn't carry them because it would have to pay to be allowed to do so and feels that the audience would be too small to justify it. If you want German channels now (or any European channels other than TV5 and TVE) you have to buy an extra satellite dish!

Are viewing figures available for this re-broadcasting of the Famous Five series I wonder? It must be remembered that the Five will probably have a whole new audience in the former G.D.R (East Germany), unless the series was broadcast there back in the 1970's. Did any exchange of televsion programmes between the East and West Germany ever take place? I suspect though, that the Famous Five would have been considered to be far too subversive during the Cold War era!
